Come and meet our new friend – she designs shoes!
So with great pleasure we introduce you to Rachel Simpson Shoes (www.rachelsimpsonshoes.co.uk) – we got chatting to her recently about her company and her aspirations for the coming year, here’s what she had to say:
“When did you start your company?”
R “We started trading in August last year and launched to the public at the National Wedding Show in September, so just under a year ago!”
H “Who buys your shoes?”
R “As the shoes are vintage inspired the collection isn’t really age defined and so appeals to a wide spectrum of women. Our customers are fashion aware but have their own sense of style and appreciate good quality.
H “How can people buy from you?
R “Customers can visit our website at www.rachelsimpsonshoes.co.uk to view and buy the full collection, or to find their nearest stockist. Alternatively they can call us on 0121 428 2698.
H “What inspired your designs?
R “I take a lot of inspiration from 1920s and 1930s footwear, when the look was elegant and glamorous, with delicate attention to detail and gorgeous materials. I try and offer something a little different to a traditional wedding shoe, so they can be worn again after the big day.
H “Who do you look up to in the design world? Who is your favourite designer?
R “Ooh tricky one – I love the forms and lines of Salvatore Ferragamo, who also had a fantastic eye for colour and fabric combinations. I’m also a big fan of Guiseppe Zanotti for his truly show-stopping creations! In the past few years I’ve admired Rupert Sanderson’s work, the design and quality go hand in hand to create some amazing shoes.
H “Who else should people be looking out for? Up and coming designers, fresh new talent?
R “Shoes really are at the forefront of fashion now rather than merely an accessory to an outfit and there are some fab designers making a real name in the fasihion world - I’m loving Nicholas Kirkwood’s amazing shapes!
H “What are you looking forward to for the rest of the year – launches, designs, travel etc?
R “I can’t wait to launch the new collection at the British Bridal Exhibition Harrogate in September, then it’s the National Wedding Shows at Earls Court and the NEC. I love doing the shows and meeting loads of happy brides to be! It makes it all worthwhile when you see the shoes in action at people’s weddings.
H “Give us a little taster of your new season collection
R “Ooh that would be telling! It’s a new direction to the bridal collection so I’m really excited to be showing something different, watch this space!
H “And finally for now Rachel, what’s your biggest fashion no-no?
R “I have done that female thing of buying shoes that are too small because I fell in love and they didn’t have my size, but I have an excuse now though, as I buy lots of tiny vintage shoes for work!”
